ANNOUNCING THE 23RD ANNUAL RUG SHOW

The Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program is hosting the 23rd Annual Rug Show and Sale, Weaving The Night Sky, November 2nd - 4th at Deer Valley's Snow Park Lodge in Park City, Utah.  Some 2,000 visitors, 200 volunteers, and 30 Navajo weavers are expected to join the celebration.

The Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program is a non-profit humanitarian organization that provides 525 traditional Navajo Elders with food, basic medicines, firewood, and other necessities throughout the year. Including family members, we serve over 3000 people on the reservation.

The Rug Show allows 30 weavers and their families to come to Park City to share their culture with visitors and to sell their rugs.  They return home with all the proceeds from their sales.  At last year’s Show a weaver said, “I sold three rugs last night.  I cried.  On the reservation, I used to go miles and miles to try to sell my rugs and sometimes I couldn’t even sell them.”

The Rug Show is a special opportunity for visitors to see hundreds of rugs and perhaps take one home.  This year's theme, Weaving The Night Sky, has inspired the weavers to design unique rugs featuring the stars which play an important role in Navajo spiritual and daily life.

Thank you for helping us inform the public about this special event that makes such a difference in the lives of the visitors, the volunteers, and especially the Navajo Elders.

The Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program exists to create a Bridge of Hope between Native Americans and other cultures. It allows us to reach out to one another, share our gifts, and mend the broken circle of our relationship with the Land and the Native Americans who hold it in sacred trust.
